And this is why I made sure I got my ass out of bed by 8am this morning:

Barry, he’s a black spaniel mix. He’s sweet and gentle and I can’t stand going a week without seeing him. I really hope he finds a home soon, he deserves one. His owners dropped him off because they couldn’t care for him any more It was a great day to be at the shelter. Barry and I spent almost 45 mins outside in the sunshine.

Today was C♥’s birthday! So to celebrate we went to lunch at Ashley’s to check out their beer selection:

I had a raspberry beer that was made right in Marshall Michigan. Chuck had Boddington’s (London) & McEwans (Scotland). We had Chicago style deep dish pizza with mushrooms, onions and banana peppers. Delicious!

One more thing, we took the baby doggies for a walk:

What makes the walk even better is Nani pooed right in the middle of the street and when C♥ picked it up…a piece fell into the palm of his hand…*snickers*

I have proof from my meeting tonight that age ≠ maturity. Our SIT (Shelter In-House Training) Team is made up of mostly volunteers. HOWEVER, a new trainer/behavior evaluator was hired some time ago. She was a vet tech for a number of years and has a lot of knowledge and experience. The SIT Team classes were developed by two very invested volunteers and they also have a lot of knowledge. Where this starts to get bad is when the staff/professional butts heads with the volunteers who formed the program. Technically the staff would be able to restructure the program and offer suggestions. Where the maturity comes in is instead of taking the suggestions and making note of them, the 2 volunteers basically said “No”, which resulted in a stand off. In the end one of the volunteers stormed out and the rest of us sat in stunned silence. It was uncomfortable to say the least. I’m pretty sure there will be no more meetings, which is sad because we all want to help our doggies get adopted, but without a cohesive team it’s that much harder. Now we have hurt feelings and tempers to deal with. I know I didn’t tell a very good story but I really have no desire to rehash it. I do know that if there is another meeting, pizza and pop is not enough, we need LIQUOR.

I was at the shelter today watching temperament testing of the dogs at the shelter. It was a very interesting process. The dogs get retested every 3-4 weeks and we got to retest my favorite doggie there, Blaze. He looks like a bear. He’s actually not that big, he just has a lot of fur. He’s been at the shelter for over a month now. It’s time for him to find his forever home.
