I don’t usually do a 2010 wrap up because I feel too pressured but I always feel like I should at least look back a little bit.  This seems relatively painless, so here we go.

1. What did you do in 2010 that you’d never done before?
I found a group of girls that I adore, they are each awesome (yes I’m talking about you: Jenni, Lauryn, Mae, Megan, Mandy, Sarah).  Without them I wouldn’t have tried Aerial Yoga, Yin Yoga, Pole Dancing or the Melting Pot.

I also went to my first wine tasting party, tubed on the AuSable, visited San Diego, got my Blackbelt, became a beaver expert, bought a cottage, installed a floor, saw Eminem in concert and took care of someone after major surgery.

2. Did you keep your New Years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don’t really believe in new years’ resolutions though I do try to make goals for myself throughout the year.

3. What countries did you visit?
None, but I did get my passport up to date and C finally got his.

4. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
Maybe get a graduate certificate, travel someplace new and do something special for my dad.

5. What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory?
You would think the closing date on our cottage would be important but yeah, I don’t remember it.  My birthday – haha but I’ll keep the reason a secret.

6. What was your biggest achievement of the year??
Trying out of the box things.

7. What was your biggest failure?
Slacking/Chickening out and not studying for the GRE

8. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Luckily, nothing major.  C had a disc in his neck replaced though.

9. What was the best thing you bought?
A cottage? A few packages from GroupOn and Living Social

10. Whose behavior merited celebration?
hmmm…as many times as I wanted to “light C on fire” I’ve also come to see how ungrateful I can be.  I’ve started making a point to notice all the things he does.  Things I won’t or can’t do and things he does because it’s just who he is.

11. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
I can say I had some appalling behavior but so has C.  :)

12. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Girl weekends up north, vacations with C

13. What song will always remind you of 2010?
Eminem, Riding Solo and Taio Cruz

14. Compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder?
I’m going to say happier

15. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Did more crafty things

16. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Commuting to and from work!

17. How did you spend Christmas?
With my Dad and LP and her boyfriend.  It was relaxing and for the most part stress free

18. Did you fall in love in 2010?
There were definitely moments where I fell more in love (and others where I wanted to light things on fire).

19. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
I don’t hate many people – so no, but there is one person that I have lost all respect for and hope I never see again.

20. What was the best book you read?
Hmmm I really liked the Beach House by Jane Green

21. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Um….I really don’t know

22. What did you want and get?
Knee socks

23. What did you want and not get?
Fingerless gloves and little notebook from etsy and a yoga membership

24. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
28 and C made me dinner.  A couple days before my birthday the MI girls and I went to the Melting Pot and that was a total blast!

25. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Figuring out what kind of career I want.

26. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
very casual – jeans/tshirts/flipflops/converse

27. What kept you sane?
my friends

28. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
ryan reynolds haha

29. Who was the best new person you met?
I can’t just name one!  See number1

30. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010?
We are where we need to be at every moment, whether we know the reason or not.

Sep

They stood on the back deck simultaneously leaning against the wood railing and each other, just barely touching. They are laughing, telling stories and there is a sense of excited nervousness between them. It’s been years, almost a decade, since they have hung out like this. Buzzed on life, alcohol or drugs, possibly all three. He is the boy that bruised her heart, though she never blamed him for it. It was always stuff that got in the way. He always seemed to understand her and from their recent talks she knew he felt exactly the same way. Those were the talks that led them here, together.

A pleasant lull in conversation had arisen in their conversation when he asked her, “you know what I do that I picked up from you?”

She giggled having no idea what he was talking about, “no.”

“C’mon, guess,” he said slinging his arm loosely around her shoulder.

“I honestly have no clue.” Her cheeks blushed as she mentally went through things it could have been.

He removed his arm and turned toward her. Instinctively she turned toward him so they are facing one another.

“If I have something on my hand, I….”He looked down at his fingers and paused, waiting for her to get it.

She bit her lip and tried to figure out what the hell he was talking about and then it dawned on her, “Wipe it on your sock…”

“Because no one will notice it’s there,” they finished the sentence together. The memory of sitting on the floor of his room eating Cheetos hit her like a tidal wave. He had been complaining about the cheese that gets left on his fingers when she shared her little secret with him.

The fact that he picked up something from her that he still did and associated back to her warmed her heart. And it still does, even years later. She didn’t share the story with anyone because it was too special, it was something just between the two of them.

But now, with all the time that has passed, it’s not so special anymore.

Sep

wanting: a new tennis skirt

creating: photobooks

disliking: the weather getting cooler and becoming rainy

reading: nothing because I haven’t had time to go to the library to pick up my books

missing: my grandma, someone reminded me of her the other day

improving: my tennis skills.  I had forgotten just how much I love the sport

realizing: that it’s ok to put things off to make time for fun

loving: all the things I’ve been discovering and rediscovering: bikram yoga, yin yoga, aerial yoga, tennis, pole dancing, sparring, baking

anticipating: C’s upcoming surgery.

What are you doing?

I was crazy happy this morning. I got up and had this whole post I wanted to write. And then I got ridiculously obsessive and crabby and it all went out the window.

So instead of my fiercely awesome post you get this

{from Stuff No One Told Me, thanks Jenni!}

So terribly true!

Let’s do something completely useless today…

If I were a month, I’d be June.
If I were a day of the week, I’d be Saturday.
If I were a time of day, I’d be dusk, when the sun is setting and the fireflies light up.
If I were a planet, I’d be Pluto.
If I were a sea animal, I’d be a dolphin.
If I were a direction, I’d be East.
If I were a piece of furniture, I’d be the couch you didn’t want to get up from.
If I were a liquid, I’d be strawberry kiwi juice.
If I were a gemstone, I’d be a topaz.
If I were a tree, I’d be a Maple Tree.
If I were a tool, I’d be a hammer.
If I were a flower, I’d be a stargazer lily.
If I were a kind of weather, I’d be sunshine.
If I were a musical instrument, I’d be the drums.
If I were a color, I’d be blue.
If I were an emotion, I’d be excited.
If I were a fruit, I’d be raspberry.
If I were an element, I’d be wind.
If I were a car, I‘d be an SUV.
If I were a food, I’d be Mexican.
If I were a place, I’d be a tropical island.
If I were a material, I’d be cotton.
If I were a scent, I’d be candy.
If I were an animal, I’d be a monkey.
If I were a facial expression, I’d be sticking my tongue out.
If I were a song, I’d be “Life Goes On”.
If I were a pair of shoes, I’d be flip-flops.

I stole this from Nifer Musings
