Amanda asked me why I didn’t have Nani on my blog. I told her it was because Nani’s lazy and never does anything funny. Ok Nani, I was WRONG! For those of you have never seen Nani in person she is a lab who used to be all athletic and muscular, well no more! Nani weighs about 75lbs on a good day and her nickname is “Big Girl”. Her daily activities contain the following:

  • Eating
  • 1 lap outside
  • sleeping
  • sleeping
  • sleeping
  • switching positions
  • sleeping
  • 1 lap around the living room with Scooby
  • sleeping
  • Putting Liko in his place
  • sleeping
  • Eating

She doesn’t exert more energy than she consumes, hence being a “little” overweight. I had a vet tell me once she’d be fine as long as she didn’t gain any more weight. I think he didn’t want to hurt my feelings.

Well today while C was at home he noticed Nani sitting by the couch staring intently at the bookshelves built into the wall. Kind of like this:

Anyways, C thought it was weird she was looking at the bookshelves and he called her away from there. (We are pretty sure we have a ghost so any weird behavior is usually blamed on Casper) Well Nani went back to the couch and balanced herself on the arm, stretching painfully to reach the bookshelves. All 75+lbs (because yes I was being generous on her weight, it makes us look bad she so chunky. Although she has been able to get all that baggage up on the bed when she wants to. She had us thinking that her hips wouldn’t allow her to but in desperate times, while we were gone in Hawaii she miraculously figured it out. We think she was just to lazy to get up there by herself when she knew we would help. She’s a smart dog, just BIG boned) Where was I? Oh yes all 75+lbs are stretching, stretching trying to get…you guessed it…TREATS. I left them up there from their training session yesterday. Apparently she’s too smart to do funny things for free. Unfortunately, you don’t think it’s funny and we don’t have a picture to show you the contortions she went through to try to get food.

It’s amazing what dogs pick up from one another: tricks, lessons…and acting like a cat.

Meet Liko:

He’s 10lbs and we’ve caught him on the back of the couches and also on the kitchen table. Now my husband will never own a cat because he hates when his sister’s cat would get on the counter. So you can imagine how pleased he was when one evening after work he walks in the door to find Liko on the counter…

Now meet Scooby:

This boy is 55lbs and recently he’s been proving he’s very agile. Standing in our kitchen we’ve watched him balance all 55lbs on the back of our couch. Ok so haha that was cute…very clever Scooby Doo.

Last week while I was making dinner he had climbed up on the back of the couch and sat there…and then put his front two paws on a kitchen chair and his head on the table. It looked like this…

The day after I took this picture, I was out to dinner with some friends. My husband calls my phone when he gets home from work and tells me in a voice that is half amused, half pissed “so I walked in the door and guess what…Scooby was standing on the table”

Yep that’s right, all 55lbs boxer mix was standing on top of the kitchen table. Not only that but when my husband walked in the door Scooby was like “oh shit” and scrambled backwards (he’s so clumsy) and toppled over the back of the couch.

I can only imagine what tricks they will come up with next. Boy I can’t wait…
