july 4th nostalgia

This is the time of year I get mega nostalgic. I think way, way too much about the past. I spent the last 5 weeks or so convincing myself that no one thinks about those times as much as me. That everyone’s lives have moved way beyond those memories. MC has a child now and we are all grown ups.

I was wrong.

I’m not the only one that still holds those memories close and that makes my heart lighter. I have a smile on my face that no one can take away this weekend.

In memory of that 4th of July night here are some things you maybe shouldn’t do on the 4th of July (or maybe you should cuz that was a night I sure as hell will never forget):

ditch the people you said you’d hang out with to hang out with cuter guys
use a vacuum attachment for drugs
imitate MTV’s triple kiss
share chips not using hands
do cartwheels down the beach
give feathers “to keep forever”
spin too close to the fire
drink 7 beers in an hour on an empty stomach
get kicked out of a party possibly before the fireworks start (we can’t remember)
jump out of a slowing car to head for the woods
name a bug in the dashboard
have a first kiss with someone special
throw up out the car window
passout in someone’s backseat

AH! I’m so frustrated. So my eyes feel like they are even worse now I’m going back to the doctor’s this afternoon.

I’m so tired of wearing my glasses.

Like a lot of other people I have tomorrow off for the July 4th holiday. I always stop when I type July 4th because I think maybe I should say Fourth of July. Meh does it really matter?

My fun plans for the weekend include but are not limited to:

Ripping more paneling from the basement walls since C found mold and then when we ripped more down we found dead mice. yeah I”ll let that sink in. Dead. Mice. A skeleton of one even. Yeah.
Ripping up tile because when our basement flooded we think it got under the tile which = MOLD
Finally having the cement poured into our “shed”. I say “shed” because really that bitch looks like a guest house. Oh don’t worry you’ll see pictures soon

Did you notice there are no Fireworks or Fun Parties listed above? That makes for a kind of crabby Ria. I made C promise he’d buy me sparklers so I can see what Scooby’s reaction will be to them. Hold the phone don’t be calling PETA on me. He is a scaredy cat just like the real Scooby Doo and he’ll bark at anything he doesn’t recognize. He barks though instead of jumping into my arms.

Also, Scooby’s tail is getting better. He can hold it half way up. I think he just likes being pathetic looking. “Mama, I haz a hurtz”

when is it too old?

I’m seriously finding that the older I get the more comfortable I am with myself. I know you’ve heard this before in a previous post I wrote not that long ago.

I think I’m more artsy than I give myself credit for. I may not be creative when it comes to sewing, drawing or painting but I think I’m still finding what I’m good at. I need to just let go and not be afraid to fail. Which is why I need to just sign up for the graphic design classes. You know since my company will pay 75%. Ugh I need a shove here.

I finally dyed my hair after 26 years and I LOVE it. I kind of like being funky.

Ashley from Our Little Apartment was twittering (?) how she is getting her nose pierced today and I am seriously jealous. I’ve wanted it done for a long time now, kind of like dying my hair, but I’m afriad.

As much as I honestly don’t care what people think, I don’t want to be that “old” chick trying to act 18 again. I just turned 27. So my question to you is how old is too old to be experimenting? To stop yourself from getting something that you’ve wanted for awhile?

Also, as much as I love where I work would it be an issue? I don’t know if anyone would notice…hmmm

Another hold up is that C isn’t really sold on the idea of a nose stud. It would just be tiny. A little sparkly. Ya know?

I don’t know. I guess I’ll just wait and see how this plays out.

I haven’t been particularly interesting lately. Would it be a total cope out to have you ask me questions that I will answer honestly and to my best ability? This is a long weekend for US bloggers so that will give me lots of time to come up with a witty sarcastic worth reading response something.

You will ask me some questions right? I know my brain always freezes when someone wants me to come up with something on the spot. But I promise you it will be fun! Well I can’t really promise because maybe it won’t be…but you know.

planning the doggie getaway

I’m both crabby and excited today. It’s really hard to be both but somehow I’m managing.

An eye infection in each eye will make a person crabby. I went to the doctor yesterday for some antibiotics and those little bastard eye drops sting

Moving on because who wants to focus on the bad. Chuck and I have been searching for a place to take the dogs for a weekend so they can enjoy the Lake and we can take out boat out. I found the perfect place in East Tawas that had a fenced backyard. Do you know how exciting the idea of renting a house with a fenced backyard? That means that if Scooby has to puke at 2am you can just throw him outside. You don’t have to find your shoes and put his leash on in a hurry. Alas, some things are too good to be true. The lady said the dates were fine and she was going to email us a form. Well it’s now 4 days and 3 phone calls later we haven’t heard anything from her. So we went back to the drawing board. I called multiple places that were either booked or didn’t look appealing to a couple hauling 3 dogs and a boat.

I hit the jackpot today though. We found another house in East Tawas (minus the fenced yard) that is a couple blocks from Tawas State Park where we can put the boat in. I’m truly excited.

In other news I took Scooby for a jog yesterday and noticed he wasn’t really into it. He kept lagging behind. He hurt his tail sometime between Sunday night and Monday afternoon. I’m not real worried about it because 6 years ago Nani hurt her tail and I took her to the vet. They couldn’t do anything but take an x-ray and charge me $100. I’m hoping he’ll feel better soon because he is acting really pathetic.

sunshine i’ve missed you

Huh, I don’t really have much to say. It’s been pretty quiet around these parts lately.

We are still waiting for our “shed” aka C’s man shack to be finished. There is still sand to be shoveled.
Our boat isn’t going to be ready for this weekend but hopefully for the 4th
Trying to plan a weekend away with the dogs. They’d love a little vaca too ya know.

You know I haven’t been to tae kwon do in a week. I went last Friday and then things got messed up this week. Honestly, I just wanted to be outside. I jogged with Scooby, biked with C and did workout videos in my own living room. It felt good to be able to go home after work instead of to the dojo. That being said, I’m glad to be going in tonight. I hope we kick bags, I don’t know if I’m up for sparring.

I should be testing for my first degree blackbelt this month but I don’t have $600 and I still owe from my last testing in October. I’m also not ready. I haven’t been in the mindset to learn the past month or so. I go because I like to sweat and I’m into sparring. But as far as learning and perfecting my poomsae, well not so much. I think with whatever it is that you are really into sometimes you just need a little break. I have no doubt I’ll be back into it soon. It’s also really hard because I’ve waited for summer for months and now that it’s finally here I just want to soak it up.
