Nothing went my way this weekend. Not that I expect everything to be all sunshine and roses but this was a little ridiculous. I’m thankful that nothing was horrible and everything was more annoying.

Saturday -

The good: I started my section of the research paper, I made crockpot macaroni and cheese, I made banana cranberry bread and I cleaned.

The bad: We decided not to go get a Christmas tree, my mac & cheese didn’t not turn out well, we spent way too much money at Kohl’s (not on Christmas presents), I found myself sliding into a funk and I really wished I had an e-reader.

Sunday -

The good: I went to target to get new drapes for the living room, my hockey team played really well.

The bad: Target only had one of the drapes, I took C’s car and his iginition wouldn’t start so he had to come meet me and start the car for me, I had to drive to another target to pick up the other drape, I was supposed to meet teammates at the bar after the game and when I got there no one was there.

I’m not going to lie to you, I spent some time sulking in the bedroom before my hockey game today. I’m just in this funk. I want to be happy but I just feel sad. I guess I miss my mom and I want to start getting ready for Christmas but nothing seems to be working. I should probably just relax and let things happen.

I hope this isn’t how the rest of my week is going to go…

2 weeks time

In the past 2 weeks I’ve…

Interviewed for a position
Finalized the adoption of my 4 month old furbaby
Had a second interview
Accepted the position
Opened the cottage
Took Stella to Lake Huron for the first time
Finally became thoroughly attached to the furbaby. C attaches to animals as soon as they enter our house, I take a bit longer. It is not that I don’t like them or want to take care of them but it takes a little while for me to form a bond. I can pinpoint the exact moment I’d do anything for this puppy. We were sitting by the fire up north and she was inside sleeping on the couch, when C opened the door she barreled out and jumped straight into my lap to cuddle and fall asleep. She is not a needy dog and she loves everyone but in that moment she wanted me.

In the next two weeks I will…

Put in my 2 weeks notice (today)
Celebrate my 4th wedding anniversary
Get my hair did
Resume work on the cottage
Shop for new clothes, for the first time in my life I have to dress in business/business casual attire. I may be freaking out. I own NO dress clothes people. Hold me? Help me?
Buy a new bag – I don’t think my backpack will cut it in a corporate environment. Suggestions?
Attend my sister-in-laws wedding at Greenfield Village
Celebrate my 29th birthday – last year of my 20′s and I’m ok with that (for now). Funny story? Last year I kept thinking I was 28 before I turned 28. This year I feel like I’m turning 28, my brain is broken.
I’m 90% sure I’m getting the Canon T3 for my birthday!!!!!!!!!

There has been a ton going and I’m excited and terrified at the same time. New puppy, new job, new wardrobe. Change, change and change some more. Change is good and I’ve noticed in my life that most of the time all the changes happen at once. Like I said, exciting and terrifying.

R & R weekends with sunshine

Whenever holidays come around I feel torn about feeling obligated to go to a family gathering or spending quality time with my own little family. I’ll be honest that 8 out of 10 times I choose the quality family time ignoring the disdain of extended family at skipping dinner.

Easter isn’t a holiday that registers with me. I was raised Catholic but I don’t practice and haven’t for some years now. I don’t have kids to take to egg hunts or color eggs with so aside for the Easter candy I don’t have much involvement with it. Instead, C and I ran our errands and picked up a soccer ball. We took the dogs to a near by community college and kicked the ball around for part of the afternoon.

Scooby was too exhausted to even sit up during the ride home

I wish I would have gotten video of Liko with the soccer ball. He would chase it down, running at top speed, and when he tried to stop as he got to it he ended up rolling over the ball. It was entertaining, trust me.

I spent an absurd amount of time watching hockey this weekend too. Every game that was on to be exact, with the exception of Nashville/Anaheim because it wasn’t broadcast on national television.

snotty salon, i will not be needing your services

Back in October LP and I bought a $35 Groupon for $100 worth of salon services at New You Salon in Birmingham (do not go there.). The original plan was to go before her birthday for manis, pedis and waxing. We bought it because we thought all services were included and the fine print only excluded massages. When I called to make the appointment I felt the change of attitude when I mentioned I had a Groupon. They also told me that some waxing services weren’t available even though that is not what the fine print said. I booked the appointment anyways and figured it’s only one time.

The day before our appointment LP and I realized we had literally a million things to do and something needed to give so we decided to reschedule. This should not have been a big deal. Because of our conflicting schedules the only date we could get together before it expired was April 22. That is more than a month from the day I called to reschedule.

When I called I was put on hold a few times and when they looked up my account and found my Groupon number they were immediately less helpful. She told me that she couldn’t find the book and she’d have to call me back, “not today, probably tomorrow”. I never received a phone call, so I contacted Groupon.

Groupon handled the issue very professionally and credited my account for a future purchase. I have to say that I will probably shy away from salon services in the future. What I don’t understand is why would a business participate in Groupon and then treat potential new clients like shit.

A mystery…

I’ve never used foundation on a regular basis, I just didn’t get it. I get it now thanks to my cousin Mae, who took me in as her guinea pig for her makeup tutorials. She is uber talented when it comes to not only applying makeup but explaining why you should use it and the best way to apply it. You wouldn’t believe I was her first video unless I told you because she is so knowledgeable and professional.

Check it out!

I have a rudolph nose in the winter time, I can definitely notice the difference when she applied my tinted moisturizer. I can’t promise I’ll do this on a daily basis, that is just not me, but I will use the technique for going out and special occasions. Maybe. I’m lazy, I can’t help it.

Anyhow, I’ve been a bad blogger so let’s do a little housekeeping around here. If I’m not cleaning my house I should be cleaning up somewhere and this is easier to do away from home. This is also known as quite photo heavy.

My BFF non-blood related sister LP turned 30 on February 5. We went out for a fancy dinner and I spent a nauseating amount of money. I did find an awesome champagne that is also made in Michigan that I adore and you can order it online. It’s called Sex which just makes it even better.

Bessie had a housewarming party that was hosted by Durex (thank you houseparty.com) – which means we blew up the extra large condoms and tossed them around like adult balloons.

Our second annual Michigan Blogger meetup was a total success with 19 bloggers showing up to hang out in Ann Arbor. FTW!

I consumed my first Valentine’s Day cupcakes with some very cool ladies who I love

C has proven that the house would fall apart without him. On Saturday he was both a plumber and electrician. Our bathroom sink has been clogged for quite some time, no I’m not telling you how long because that would be gross, but we needed to do something about it because LP is going to be staying at our house. He got the drain snake out and went at it from the sink, then took off some pipe and when that didn’t work he had the brilliant idea to use his air compressor. It worked and we don’t have to pay a plumber, woohoo! We finally bought a light fixture/ceiling fan to replace this ridiculous one in our kitchen (again I’m not telling you how long we went without because that would show our laziness), he had to redo some wiring and voila LIGHT in the kitchen.

dexter, wedding daze, and my favorite commercial

I’m late to jump on the Dexter bandwagon but OMG I just finished season 2 last night while the Super Bowl was on. Sorry, I really don’t care about it at all. C and I were looking for a new show after we finished the Rescue Me series (when is season 6 coming to dvd?????) and Dexter filled the void quite nicely. I’m constantly amazed at the twist and turns in the plot. Sure there are little things that bug me about it but this show is definitely a winner.

I have a serious girl crush on Isla Fisher, she is so cute. After finishing Dexter C and I watched Wedding Daze. Cute movie but definitely not a movie with any substance.

Excuse me, when did Jason Biggs get attractive? Uh and he had a pretty hot body at the beginning of the movie with his skimpy little red undies.

Even though I didn’t watch the Super Bowl, I did see the Chysler commercial. It was nice to see Detroit in a positive light, especially to an audience so big. Sure, maybe people in other states saw it as another commercial, but I hope that isn’t the case. There are some really great things in Detroit that get over looked. The people that make up the city get put down, but there are a lot of 20 and 30somethings that have decided to move downtown. It is a city that is often the butt of jokes, but it’s where I went to school and where I frequently visit and I’m proud of it.

I do wonder how much Em was paid to appear in this ad…

finding fun in snow again

I’m deliriously tired today. You would think a whole day outside in the cold would have knocked me out last night, but not so much. I couldn’t fall asleep and when I did I woke up 2 hours later to some noise and then I was wide awake. I tried laying out on the couch but that didn’t work either. I finally did fall asleep but I swear I woke up ever hour or so. Ridiculous.

Oh well, C thinks it is because I was still so pumped from snowboarding with Bessie all day. I came home and couldn’t stop talking about it. It felt amazing to get back out on the slopes. Maybe I was still on a high from the day.

We had a couple mishaps and I’m sure we were entertaining to the worker at the top of the hill because of our antics getting off the chairlift. He even came out to give commentary a couple of times. The only scary part of the day was getting our boards tangled up on the exit from the chairlift at the end of the day. I swear if I wouldn’t have laid flat the chair would have punched me in the face. We didn’t let the chairlift win, we made sure we had an pretty exit and a good run before we called it a day. I’d say we rocked it for not having been out on our boards in a few years.

On Friday I was at taekwondo doing normal kicks and all of a sudden I felt a pop in the back of my leg. Yeah, I pulled my hamstring. I was terrified I wasn’t even going to be able to go to snowboarding so I left class and picked up some icy hot and on impulse a thermacare heatwrap. Oh.My.God. that thermacare heatwrap was the best thing I ever bought. It was stayed warm for longer than 8 hours and really relaxed my aching muscle. I went from limping with stiffiness to just a minor aggrevation on saturday. If you ever pull a muscle or just have an ache I highly recommend trying the thermacare heatwraps.

(And no, I was not asked or paid in any way to endorse thermacare heatwraps I happened to pick them up on a whim. Though if they wanted to give me samples, money or coupons I would accept .)

a very hockey weekend

This past weekend C and I ventured over the border with our newly printed passports after getting up early for yoga (me) and hockey (C). I’ve had a passport since I was 20 but never used it to go anywhere cool. Since you can only use your passport with your maiden name and your marriage certificate for 6 months I needed a new one. While C was off work for his neck surgery we went to our local post office and filled out the applications and paid the fees.

(I will let you in on a little secret, getting our passports was a major step for a vacation we will be taking this year!!)

C grew up playing hockey and back when he was a boy, getting over the bridge/tunnel to Windsor was no problem. He played in a lot of travel leagues so going to Windsor is a walk down memory lane for him. His brand, spanking new passport was burning a hole in his pocket so we decided to visit Windsor. We went probably about 5 years ago, when all you needed was your birth certificate. We kept seeing commercials on CBC for Spago and we had to try it. (Eek, I’m long winded today, storytelling. Out of practice)

Border crossing always makes me nervous. I always feel like I’m guilty of something even though I’m not. It has to be their training in steely stares. We were pretty lucky going and coming back, my friend LP always gets harassed. Shoot, when I used to go to Canada with her we always used to get harassed. I guess she just looks like she’s up to something lol.

Anyways, our first stop was the old Windsor Arena where the Spitfires used to play. Next time we will go to their new arena and hopefully watch a game.

We spent the rest of the afternoon driving around Windsor and checking out the Detroit River. We stopped to walk around downtown and I found the best Buddha next to the elusive one we found in San Diego last February. I adored the one in San Diego, I wanted to buy him but he weighed at least 90lbs and we had no idea how to get him home. I still think about him, I wish we would have bought him. While we were walking around I spotted a Laughing Buddha statue in the window of this shop. C went in and asked the price and before I knew it we were at an ATM and he was taking money out to buy him. Isn’t he cute? I need to paint him but I’m clueless, suggestions?

When we got back over the bridge we stopped in at Circa for some cheesy, cheesy pizza. Yum. Circa brings back so many memories of college. We went home and settled in with a fire and hockey night in Canada. It was a perfect day.

Sunday we got all our errands out of the way and we went to Sticks and Pucks at a local ice rink. I haven’t been on skates in at least 5 years. I was pretty stoked and I was surprised at how it just comes back. I didn’t fall once and only wobbled a little in the beginning.

I actually found a local beginning women’s hockey league that starts in the Fall. They play Sunday evenings and the first four weeks is training and learning the game. I’m seriously considering it. Anyone want to join me?
