I’m unpacking a box of books in my office. The book on top is The International Library of Poetry- Secret Hiding Places. I forgot about this book, my mom ordered it when I got a letter saying that they published one of my poems. I don’ t remember how old I was when I wrote it. In high school for sure as the copyright date is 2000. It makes me laugh that it was actually published. I don’t even remember how it got submitted or discovered.
*Note: I used to belong to poetry.com and that’s how this poem was discovered. Wow blast from the past for sure
Update: So you ever have one of those moments where you suddenly remember everything? I was trying to remember who I wrote that poem about (well let’s be honest, I had a strong suspicion but I wasn’t 100% positive) and ALL of A SUDDEN it totally hit me. I remembered everything about that poem. How I felt when I wrote it, who I wrote it for, EVERYTHING. It hit me like a ton of bricks. It’s the oddest feeling ever but I totally love it.
Summer Past
Sexy eyes
Rosy cheeks
Make my heart melt and my knees weak
Good times
Hard laughs
Make me always want to come back
Long talks
Starry nights
Make me want to stay out til morning light
Long journeys
Holding hands
Make my life seem perfectly planned
Days lost
Sad goodbyes
Make me feel emptiness inside

What a great blast from the past though.
Your poem is great – it made me smile. I love how you can read/hear/see something that can just bring you back to a particular memory…
We have something in common! I had a poem published in Teen Magazine.
Great poem, Ria!
How cool that your mom got you a copy – very special for you I’m sure!! It’s beautifully written Ria. I didn’t know you are a poet! Nice!
