I’m going to spend my weekend cleaning, I think. Which is fine, but it got me thinking. When I clean, I wipe down counters and anything that is obviously visible. But the basement, closets and cupboards are another story. See you only see that mess when you open them up. It’s kind of like my life right now. I can be clean and organized on the surface, but underneath I’m pretty much cluttered and a mess. The parts of the house that no one sees, I don’t want to even start cleaning those up because I’m overwhelmed. I don’t know where to start. Cleaning the basement, closets and cupboards means throwing things out that have sentimental value that I no longer want or need. Things I outgrew, like my cabbage patch dolls, barbies, kiddie games, old clothes, cracked cups and broken dishes. I know that it can’t wait forever, that one of these days I’m going to have to take the effort and time to clean up both the house and my personal life.

What a truly awesome analogy Ria! I’ll bet a ton of people feel this way but never thought of it like that; I know I haven’t. I feel overwhelmed too about the cleaning, and my inner self. It’s a daily struggle. But, within the last year, I have purged myself of a lot of “things” around the house (I had a big garage sale actually) and I felt like a huge load was lifted off my shoulders. What didn’t sell went to Good Will. How freeing!!! And, I’ve been keeping up with it. I have also stopped buying “things” to make me happy because they don’t – and they end up making me feel cluttered. I will send up good thoughts for you that you de-clutter your life and mind and find peace and happiness. Also, don’t get rid of your Cabbage Patch or other sentimental items, just set them in a big labeled box; what is really special – throw the rest away, you’ll feel like a zillion dollars. I promise
I wish I had the patience to have a garage sale haha
Ooh – I tend to buy things (like java) or also – clean. Yup. I’d get up at midnight and start cleaning if something is bothering me.
You are in my thoughts Ria – I wish all the content and peace in the world for you. You deserve it so much!! {{hugs}}
In the meantime – I’ll help you clean.
I’d love to have your company SJ!
I actually took 3 bags of crap from the basement to good will!!! wooo!!! (although I have to admit that they were bagged and just sitting down there for…oh you know…about a year haha)
