I had the chance to see the Dalai Lama while he was in Ann Arbor yesterday.  I was profoundly touched by his simple answers and general happiness.  Though he was talking about environmental issues and sustainability, he brushed a little bit on Buddhism, which fascinates me.  I have always been intrigued by the East.  I always took a minute of silence when we’d pass Buddha statues in Hawaii (this includes the time when I was 10 and knew nothing about religion other than I told people I was catholic).  I’d love to meditate, and I know the only thing that is keeping me from it, is myself.  Buddhism is called a religion now, but I think of it more as a lifestyle.  At least in my opinion.  Oh who am I kidding, this whole blog is my opinion.  So if you disagree with me let me know.   If you don’t like what I’m saying? Stop reading.

I’m currently reading two books about Buddhism and I’m throughly engaged in them.  It’s so simple and makes so much sense to me.  I have been trying out little things here and there.  When something isn’t going my way, I take a step back and think it is just one moment, it will pass.  Even just these small little teachings in daily life go so far.

But enough about that, that is my own personal journey that I will throughly explore.  Anonymous Amy summed up my experience of the Dalai Lama in her post.  Read it.  Seriously. Go now.

Well I definately have to agree that buddhism in the USA become more and more a lifestyle that includes yoga, the five tibetan rites, singing bowls and buddha statues. However, buddhism in Asia is definately a religion. Just my two sent
